Damodar Madgaonkar

DAMODAR MADGAONKAR is a Goan artist and sculptor, who started out as a commercial artist at a very young age. He was always of a creative bent and excelled in drawing and painting during his school days as he got guidance from his fine arts teacher Mangala Kamat. As Damodar dabbled in various forms of arts, he developed skills to create commercial art and started rendering his services to many top hotels in Goa. However, Damodar always wanted to turn into a full-time artist and joined PIED PIPER ACADEMY (founded by world renowned Goan artist Wilson D’Souza). Under the tutelage of Mr. D’Souza, he developed his own style — most of his works are based in the realm of realistic fantasy.

My works showcase various thought processes of the human mind. I have used ELEPHANT as a subject of experiment to produce artwork that expresses my viewpoint as I portray my ideas using ELEPHANT anatomy. I believe that no one in this world can understand oneself other than
his or her ownself. I have explained this concept taking a path of observation of human behaviour and reflect my conclusions in my thought-provoking paintings. I believe that we all beings have elephant behaviour in us)

Solo Exhibitions
• Damodar organised his solo art exhibition ‘Karmaholic’ at Kala Academy Art Gallery,
Panaji, from October 26-30, 2013, which further established him higher in the
pecking order of the up and coming artists
• Damodar organised his solo art exhibition ‘GAJVIKRTI’ at Ujwal Art Gallery,
vagator,goa from 13th December 2015-6th january, 2016.

Exhibitions
• Damodar first exhibited his works in a group exhibition of Pied Piper Academy at
Kala Academy, Panaji, Goa on December 13, 2012.
• His works were then selected for the state art exhibition at Kala Academy, Panaji,
Goa on January 18, 2013 which earned him wide acclaim.
• Damodar has also exhibited his works abroad; he displayed his works at India
International Art Exhibition in Colombo, Sri Lanka from November 25-29, 2013.
• Thereafter, he also showcased his exhibits at Expression, a group exhibition
organised by Greenmark Art Gallery in Delhi in December, 2013.
• On December 14, 2013 he exhibited his works at Artizan Art Gallery in Delhi.
• He then displayed his works at All India Contemporary Art Exhibition in Jaipur,
Rajasthan from January 15-17, 2014.
• Damodar returned home to present to the Goan audiences his latest works at
Artinspired’s group art exhibition ‘Chitrasangam 2014’ from February 21-24, 2014.
• Next he participated in ‘The Amalgamation’, a group art exhibition at Rani
Durgawati Sangrahalaya, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.
• Exhibited his works at ‘Rangostav’, a group art exhibition in Jaipur, Rajasthan on
August 15, 2014.
• Participated in ‘Roop Patiroop’, a group art exhibition in Almora on July 15, 2014.
• Also exhibited works in ‘Kalapath’, a group art show in Ranikhet, Uttarakhand on
October 6, 2014.
• Exhibited works in ‘Shubharambh’, a group art exhibition at Ujwal Art Gallery,
Vagator, Goa on November 16, 2014.
