Artist Rakhi Mehta

Joined Craft Tatva: November 2021

Rakhi Mehta is a visual artist based in Mumbai, India. She completed her higher education as a student of zoology and initially expressed her early inclinations towards art through an exploration of intricate scientific illustrations, winning awards in competitions for her drawings of endangered species and the symbiosis of the natural world. Her artistic abilities manifested in the converging of the disciplines of science and art, as she continued her career in pathology. She rekindled her artistic practice a few years ago and has since participated in mentorship programs and several group exhibitions nationally and internationally. Incorporating acrylics, oils and other mediums in her canvases, her paintings encompass both, bolder brush strokes and detailed patterns. Seeking to explore a range of subject matter, she creates landscapes, abstractions and figurative paintings that address themes of spirituality and religion. She was recently selected as the Kalanirvana City Representative for the city of Mumbai, and is currently working with a group of artists to organize artist talks and exhibitions, in an effort to bring an awareness towards contemporary Indian art and promote emerging Indian artists.

Focus Areas: Buddha, Figures, etc.
