About Ranadip Mukherjee
Born in 1968 at Jamshedpur, India, Ranadip Mukherjee has graduated with First-Class-First from the Government College of Arts & Crafts in 1992, Calcutta. A Mumbai based full time artist, Ranadip had his first solo show at the oldest and most esteemed Art Gallery in Calcutta, the Academy of Fine Arts, in 1991. From that time onwards, he decided to devote the rest of his life as a professional artist and living in his own world of creativity.
Ranadip’s latest works are based and inspired by the old historical city of Banaras in Uttarpradesh (Northern part of India). He felt that Banaras, which he has been visiting since his college days, on every season, is the perfect place to portray India’s rich culture. There are many different kind of people in Banaras, each with different characters and doing different activities in the Ghats. The wonderful combination of the massive architectures set against the Ganges River, truly become the source of inspiration for him. Ranadip says “I am trying to capture Banaras to create a window like compositions. I believe that every man’s world is essentially a composite of both aspects. The window is therefore my personal metaphor for ‘Home and the World’, trying to symbolize the relationship between man’s private reality existence and his vital need to remain connected with the larger world outside. This is the reason I love Banaras and love to paint Banaras.” Most of his works are executed in acrylics, combined with charcoal and soft pastel on canvas.
Ranadip Mukherjee has participated in ’Art in Industry’ Art Camps by Tata Steel, Jamshedpur in 2005, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. In 2003, he also attended the Art Camp at Kenelworth Hotel, organized by the Rotary Club of Calcutta. In 2011, he produced 11 life size works for 11 decades of Tata Steel’s history as part of their Centenary Collection.
