Runa's creative journey began when she took up the paintbrush at a very tender age of six, and watching her play with colors was put under the tutelage of an accomplished Kolkata artist - Santanu Mitra. Being born and brought up in north Kolkata she used to be a regular at Baghbazar Ghat on the banks of Ganga, so painting fluid landscapes came naturally to her. The river of many hues and moods became a source of inspiration to her artistic journey. Thus began her journey of exploration, discovery and the experiments with colours.

About Runa Biswas

Runa’s creative journey began when she took up the paintbrush at a very tender age of six, and watching her play with colors was put under the tutelage of an accomplished Kolkata artist – Santanu Mitra.

She was also academically inclined and pursued finance during her college days. But art was her destiny. After her marriage to a Mumbai-based Ad Professional she settled down in Bangalore, and started pursuing art professionally. Since the last few years she has participated in many shows and her paintings has been panned both by art critics, senior artists and art lovers for her unique style and technique including layer by layer pouring. For Runa art has become a part of her daily life. She works both in Alla Prima style, which is fast and spontaneous; and detailed work. Runa has not restricted herself to any particular subject or topic, and has painted wildlife, landscapes, people, portraits, flowers, architecture, culture with her signature pouring style.
The theme of her recent series is around a very interesting and intriguing subject – Headgears of people across the world. During one of her artistic journey she came across the profoundness of how different headgears are related to culture, traditions, festivals, ego, pride, valour, power… right down to a basic human necessity.
Runa’s passion for watercolor is evident in her playful yet dynamic style. She considers herself as a realistic-abstract artist. She also works with acrylic and mixed media. In this current series she has experimented with abstract composition.
