Rabindranath Tagore’s own idea about the oriental and the occidental philosophies reflected all through his prose-works which include a rich number of short stories and non-fiction has the potential for an artist’s endeavor to explore it through a different form of representation. Expressing Tagore’s thoughts through paintings can be deemed a quest for a different discourse for approaching the works of genius. I have been associated with the art form from my early days, and from the past three years I have been working on the aforementioned area, having already attempted several works by Tagore. My practice of art aims at making creative progress in this line of thought as it is quite surprising to discover that even during the unprecedented global crisis which currently has reduced our all activities to a state of captivity at home rendering most of us psychologically affected more or less, Tagore’s works and my effort to touch them through my work have been serving as a guiding star in the apparent listlessness of life. Though, it must be highlighted that my paintings chiefly manifest my interpretation of Tagore, which relates to my time, a time that has a stark difference from the maestro’s in terms of societal, economic, political norms. The world we live in stands on the precipice of a paradigm shift. My approach to my work, hence, will involve the elements I have at hand.
