About Anirban Jana

Anirban was born (1991) and raised in rural West Bengal in India. His performance in academics was excellent right from his childhood. After higher secondary education, because of the lack of proper career counseling programs, Anirban ended up selecting a mainstream career option and chose to be an engineer being ‘influenced’ by others. He qualified IIT (Indian Institute of Technology, the toughest engineering entrance exam in India and probably the third globally back then in 2009) Entrance Examination successfully in the very first attempt. He pursued Mining Engineering from ISM IIT Dhanbad and graduated in 2014 with excellent grades.

During his college days, Anirban used to sketch a lot in leisure times, just for fun. His introduction to the art world was not very smooth and it was certainly not by his choice, but he was probably predestined to it! Later he discovered many masters of watercolor and other media over different social platforms and got hugely motivated by them, so much so that it had put him into dilemma whether to continue engineering or to pursue arts. In 2015, he listened to his inner voice and made the choice to move away from the mining industry leaving behind a lucrative job and a career full of opportunities. Since then he has spent most of his time in painting outdoors, studying and experimenting with water media (mainly) all by his own. Because (of his academic background) he had not much options to study arts professionally from reputed institutes, he planned to dedicate his initial years solely behind learning the craft (the art of watercolor) as quickly and in as vast as possible while paying the least attention to his financial well-being.

In essence, he likes to paint cityscapes with interesting architectural features and streetscapes; yet with a keen interest in rural & mountain landscapes, portraits & figurative arts, still-life, indoor studies and pretty much everything. With a constant eagerness to gain knowledge and experience through his self-directed art education, Anirban is determined to pursue his ambition in the Watercolor world by seeking new scopes in diverse subjects. He is also committed to staying relevant with changing trends; seeking for new ideas, new opportunities, and new findings.
